Lions Johan Ackermann Hurricanes Super Rugby

Lions head coach Johan Ackermann is not concerned that a long trip to Wellington will hinder his side's chances of winning Saturday's Super Rugby final and feels the pressure will all be on Hurricanes in their own backyard.

Ackermann's side will feature in their first Super Rugby final this weekend after dumping out defending champions Highlanders with a 42-30 victory at Ellis Park on Saturday.

The Johannesburg-based Lions boarded the plane to New Zealand on Sunday for their showdown at Westpac Stadium and their coach does not expect travel to be a decisive factor.

He said: "There is travel involved, but this group has won three out of four last year on the road and this year two out of three on the road,

"I do believe this group loves to be together and travel. I do believe that finals are meant to be 50-50 and my view is that everybody does have a chance

"It's a one-off game and maybe if we do the right things well on the day it's not impossible. The pressure is on them, as it is a home game for them."

Ackermann urged his players to savour the occasion as they eye a first Super Rugby title at the expense of last year's runners-up, who beat Chiefs 25-9 in the first semi-final.

"It was good to turn the tables on the Crusaders and the Highlanders, but more important for us is to reset," he added. "We must go and enjoy it."
