NSMQ 2026: PRESEC, Legon crushes St. John’s and Tamale SHS in thrilling battle to book Grand Finale spot

• PRESEC, Legon secured the second ticket to the Grand Finale, finishing top of the semi-final contest with 44 points.

• St. John’s School placed second with 25 points, while Tamale SHS ended the contest in third with 16 points.

• The result keeps PRESEC’s trophy chase alive as the eight-time champions target another NSMQ title after reaching the final.

And the final scoreboard was giving Odadeɛ behaviour:

• PRESEC, Legon — 44 points

• St. John’s School — 25 points

• Tamale SHS — 16 points

That’s right — PRESEC are going to the final!

There was no room for “maybe next year” energy from PRESEC.

The Legon giants walked into the contest knowing exactly what was at stake, and when the final bell rang, they had built a 19-point gap over St. John’s School.

St. John’s, who had already shown serious fight earlier in the competition, finished second on 25 points, while Tamale SHS ended the contest with 16.

For the Saints and TAMASCO, it’s curtains for their 2026 NSMQ journey.

PRESEC are no strangers to the Grand Finale.

The Legon-based school are the defending NSMQ champions and eight-time winners, having claimed their most recent title in 2023.

PRESEC now have one more mountain to climb before they can add another trophy to their already stacked NSMQ cabinet.

And judging by today's performance, the Odadeɛ boys clearly did not come to UCC to take pictures.

St. John’s School had reached the semi-finals after winning their quarter-final contest with 43 points, beating Saviour SHS and Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS.

Tamale SHS, meanwhile, had also fought their way into the semis after topping their quarter-final contest with 36 points, ahead of St. Hubert Seminary SHS and Labone SHS.

But this time, neither school could match PRESEC's pace.

The Saints finish their campaign as the runners-up in this contest, while TAMASCO's impressive 2026 run comes to an end at the semi-final stage.

The 2026 NSMQ grand finale, scheduled for September 10.
