Carmelo Anthony has apologised to pop star Vanessa Carlton after being caught skipping a rendition of one of her songs.

Despite his fellow United States basketball team-mates appearing happy to belt out 'A Thousand Miles' over the weekend, the New York Knicks small forward was caught on camera looking decidedly unimpressed.

The 32-year-old blamed his apparent grumpiness on being tired.

"They know I don't like early mornings," Anthony told NBA TV following USA's 110-66 win over Nigeria on Monday. "That was Jimmy's [Butler] playlist. I'm taking the speakers back from him. No more music."

Carlton responded with a tweet to Anthony, saying: "I get it. Though the boys did sound pretty good."

Anthony added that he does actually like the 2001 hit from the Legally Blonde soundtrack, which was infamously covered by Terry Crews in the satirical film 'White Chicks'.

"I love the movie, you know White Chicks, but they got me early in the morning," Anthony said. "I'm sorry Vanessa, I apologise."
