It was rumored over the entire transfer window that the English player was set to move to Chelsea.

Oxlade-Chamberlain spent the tail end of the season and the beginning the season in Arsenal starting at the wing back position.

It was reported that Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to play in midfield and that is why he rejected Chelsea.

In an interview with Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand in the 2017 FA Cup Final against Chelsea on the pitch of the Wembley Stadium Oxlade-Chamberlain dropped the hint that his favorite role was still in central midfield.

“The wing back role plays into my hands. When I play out wide I’m not used to running with the ball and I get the chance to come from deep. At the end of the day it gives me minutes so I am not one to complain.”

But maybe the midfield role (he points to Gerrard) I have always to be Steven Gerrard so I still hope for that.

It is thereby no surprise that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected £180,000 pay rise for £120,000 at Liverpool. It is even more iconic he goes to Merseyside where Steven Gerrard left a legacy
