The abolishment of the tax was seen as an incentive to increase passenger numbers with the local aviation industry.

As part of the 2017 IATA Day celebrations in Ghana, a conference was held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.

In February 2016 the aviation minister promised to see to an airline flying the Ghanaian flag in the next one year.

She says feasibility study done by PricewaterhouseCoopers under the immediate past government revealed that the prospects of establishing a new carrier are promising.

Mrs Dapaah says she is convinced with 18,000 passengers flying into Ghana annually via British Airways, some 1.2 million people traveling by air in Africa and seven billion worldwide, Ghana cannot go wrong with getting its own airline.
