Ford Expedition gift saga Djibril Kanazoe pulls out of ₵82m sole-souring contract

Mr. Djibril Kanazoe’s disinterest in the project follows a Joy FM investigation into a $650,000 wall he built around a piece of land for Ghana's Embassy in Burkina Faso, including the €25.9million Dodo Pepeso-Nkwanta road.

The Burkinabe contractor who gave President John Mahama a Ford Expedition as  ‘gift’ has pulled out of an ₵82m road construction earmarked for him on sole sourcing.

Mr. Djibril Kanazoe’s disinterest in the project follows a Joy FM investigation into a $650,000 wall he built around a piece of land for Ghana's Embassy in Burkina Faso, including the €25.9million Dodo Pepeso-Nkwanta road.

The investigations further showed that the contractor was being considered for another contract to construct the Wa-Hamile road on sole-sourcing basis.

But on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Thursday, Roads and Highways Minister Insuah Fuseini said Kanazoe will no longer execute the new contract.

According to him, Kanazoe was invited to be selected for the purpose of executing the Wa-Hamile road but refused to partake in the tendering process without ‘any reason.’

“The Burkinabe contractor Mr. Djibril Kanazoe’s based on his previous performance was invited to be a part of the contractors to be selected for the purpose of executing the contract.

“Sorry to inform you that the contractor refused to partake in the process when the bids were available to be purchased,” he said.

Fuseini said the bids were made available two weeks ago and that the tender was opened on Wednesday, June 15.

According to him, the contractor did not give any reason for his withdrawal.

Fuseini added that he did not also bother to find out the reason Kanazoe pulled out, saying “I don’t think he has any obligation to give any reason.”

Kanazoe had earlier admitted giving president Mahama a Ford Expedition as a gift.

However, Government in a statement issued by Communications Minister, Edward Omane Boamah said even though the car was received, it had nothing to do with the contract awarded.

“The said vehicle, which was placed in the vehicle pool at the Presidency as per established convention had nothing to do with the award of the contracts”, the statement said.

The 2010 Ford Expedition was transported to Accra facilitated by the Ghana Embassy there, the investigation added.
