Pistol of lynched soldier retrieved
After his murder, the authorities of the Ghana Armed Forces dispatched soldiers to Denkyira Obuasi where Captain Mahama was lynched for initial investigations and to also retrieve his pistol.

They went there for initial investigations and also to retrieve the body and pistol of their dead colleague. They pledged not to leave the area until they find the pistol.
However, Graphiconline reported that a member of the unit committee, who is suspected to be part of the lynching, reported himself to the police and also gave the pistol to them.
The police subsequently arrested him together with the assembly member for the area, William Baah, who is also suspected to be involved in the matter.
Captain Maxwell Mahama was lynched after the residents who had witnessed an armed robbery incident the night before raised an alarm.

He was reportedly carrying a gun and the residents led by the assemblyman organised some youth in the town to beat him to death and burnt his mortal remains.
Meanwhile, the Central Regional Police has arrested seven suspects in connection with the murder of the military officer.
In a related a magistrate court in Cape Coast has remanded the seven suspects.
The Police prosecutor in the case prayed the court for a two-week remand of the suspects to allow them to investigate the matter thoroughly.

A provisional charge of murder was preferred against the six suspects.
