The PNC in a statement said Atik Mohammed does not have the mandate to represent the party in any capacity.

Atik Mohammed was suspended indefinitely over comments he made about the appointment of Dr Edward Mahama as the Ambassador-at-Large by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He was charged with bringing the party's name into disrepute at the party's extraordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Saturday, the PNC's Communications Director, Emmanuel Wilson has confirmed.

He was also accused of criticising the party’s 2016 flagbearer, Dr Edward Mahama on multiple media platform.

However, Atik Mohammed has denied reports that he has been suspended.

In a Facebook post, he said no organ of the party save National Congress is clothed with such powers to suspend him.

He wrote: "My attention has been drawn to some news that I have been suspended indefinitely. It is not true and indeed, no organ of the party save National Congress is clothed with such powers. I will officially be issuing a statement to this effect."
