Nigeria beat Ghana 0-2 to qualify for semi-finals

Goals from Okpotu and Moses sent Nigeria into the last four of the 2017 WAFU Cup on Monday.

The Super Eagles who needed a win to book a place in the semis, after they had d their drawn their first two games of the tournament, started the game well by dictating the pace and created opportunities- John, Eze, Moses all had chances to put Nigeria in front, but they were denied by Joseph Addo who put  up a good display of goalkeeping.

Ghana afterwards took over play and also had their own share of the opportunities- Felix Addo was put through yet he delayed on the ball for an opposing defender to clear it, before Emmanuel Lomotey’s shot missed the post by few inches.

After the interval Ghana continued from where the left it off in the first half by pilling pressure on their West African neighbours.

The Black Stars nearly got the opener when Patrick Razak who came off the bench was impeded by Ezenya in post for Nigeria.

Instead of the referee  awarding Ghana a penalty he whistled for a goal kick and it was a big sigh of relief for the Nigerians.

The Super Eagles B afterwards came into the game strongly. Okpotu who was looking for his first goal of the tournament managed to make a good work of Vincent Atingah when he was put through, before he fired it at the blind side of Joseph Addo in post in the 53rd minute.

Three minutes later, Moses sealed the victory for Nigeria when he connected perfectly a pass a cross the goal area of Ghana.

Black Stars B didn’t cause much threat following the second goal, enabling nthe game to end 0-2 in favour of the Nigerians and also had the semi-finals berth.
