How come Winful Cobbinah has not been featured?

The Hearts of Oak playmaker deserves to be called and feature for the Black Stars once he is still in form.

The left-footed midfielder has been excellent in the Ghana Premier League and was very influential to Ghana’s triumph in the WAFU tournament.

Cobbinah made his claim in the WAFU tournament for the Black Stars B which made him a probable candidate for Kwesi Appiah's line-up.

Suprisingly, James Kwesi Appiah named the squad to face Congo without Winful Cobbinah in the setup. Congratulations to Isaac Twum, Vincent Atingah and Joseph Addo who are the locally based players in the squad.

They have paid their dues and desire to be called but James Kwesi Appiah will need to answer a few questions.

The only call-up Cobbinah has been given was the first squad James Kwesi Appiah named on his return as head coach of the national team.

There were seven locally-based players in the 30 man squad for the games against Ethiopia, USA and Mexico which took place in the month of July 2017.

The 30-man squad faced Ethiopia but none of the locally based players featured. The team that embarked on a trip to USA for the games against Mexico and USA had been pruned down to 22 as the coach left Ghana with 17 players.

The rest were Ghanaian contingents who were based in the United States. Those in the Premier League at the time were Richard Ofori, Joseph Addo, Winful Cobbinah, Samuel Sarfo, Nicholas Opoku

Winful Cobbinah and Joseph Addo.

That was the last time Winful Cobbinah came close to Ghana Black Stars.

It is true that midfield in Ghana has competition especially in the Black Stars B but Cobbinah deserves a chance.

The playmaker with a knack for creating chances and splitting up defenses with incisive passes has 7 assist in the Ghana Premier League. Cobbinah was as well a delight to watch in the WAFU tournament and had two important goals to show for it.

James Kwesi Appiah will need to answer three questions form me.

Does Coach James Kwesi Appiah have a specific number of times a local outfield player must be called?

Will any local outfield player need to get a transfer out of Ghana before being asked to join the Ghana Black Stars after his first call-up?

Will Cobbinah ever be given the chance to feature for the Ghana Black Stars?

The first two questions will also apply to Gideon Waja, Samuel Sarfo, and Daniel Darkwah who in recent times have received one call-up only to never return again.
