Shocking to hear GFA members support omission of Ayew brothers – Solar Ayew

Solar Ayew is mystified after hearing some FA members back the decision to drop the Ayew brothers.

According him, it is even more perplexing to know that some FA members have openly spoken in support of the decision.

His comments come after Executive Committee member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer said Kwasi Appiah was right drop the aforementioned players because he “doesn’t want to lose control of the dressing room and I would have taken the same decision".

The Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan, have been excluded from Appiah’s initial 26-man squad to face Uganda on October 7 in Ghana’s penultimate world cup qualifier.

The decision to omit the duo has divided opinion among Ghanaians, with some suggesting it was borne out of their late pull-out for the Black Stars’ last qualifier against Congo earlier this month.

However, Solar Ayew – who is the brother of Abedi Ayew ‘Pele’ – says he does not expect members with key positions in the FA like Palmer to be making such statements, insisting it is very shocking.

According to him, the family anticipated such a thing happening and so psyched up his nephews before the news of their omission was broken.

"It's a shock to the family that a high ranking official will make such a comment," Solar said in an interview with Metro FM.

"We knew something like this will definitely come out in the future but not from a person who holds such a position in the association. We psyched the brothers before this list was even made officially.”

The Black Stars will face Uganda in Kampala on October 7, needing a win to keep their slim qualification hopes to Russia alive.
