The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that bonuses for Black Stars players in friendly games will be further reduced from the $5,000 they currently receive.

Bonus issues concerning the national team have been a major issue for the GFA and the Sports Ministry to deal with, especially after a large section of the public fell out with the Black Stars following a row over appearance fees at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Earlier this year the Sports Ministry agreed with the management of the Black Stars to reduce player bonuses from $10,000 to a flat $5,000.

However, speaking in an interview with Agoo TV, Communications Director of the GFA, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, disclosed that the previous agreement will longer be the case.

According to him, players of the Black Stars will no longer receive $5,000 for friendly games, as agreed earlier, adding that the bonuses will be reduced further.

“We are in negotiations about reducing the appearance fees,” Sannie Daara said.

He, however, highlighted that the recent friendlies against the USA and Mexico will not be affected by the latest changes, saying “for now, the players will receive the normal fee for the Mexico and USA friendlies.”

It is currently unknown how much the players will now receive for friendly games, however, theywill still take home $5,000 for tournaments and qualifiers.
