The Black Stars B team will have the opportunity to defend the title they won in 2013, as Ghana prepares to host this year’s edition.

On Thursday the 2017 WAFU tournament was launched at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, with a total of 16 countries drawn to compete.

Ghana will have to go past The Gambia in order to reach the group stages, after being paired against the Scorpions in the preliminary round.

The Ghana side is expected to be made up of some of the most exciting talents from the Ghana Premier League, and Samuel Osei Kuffour believes it will be a true test of the quality of the local league.

“When the draw was made for Ghana, everyone shook their head. That says a lot in the sense that we have a lot of work to do in the local league. I see that it is a big test for us,” the ex-Bayern Munich rearguard said after the draw.

“We have to go all the way to win the tournament and if we fail, then we can say that league is not of good quality and we need to do something better.”
