Nigeria better than Ghana – Maxwell Konadu

The Ghana coach has admitted that Nigeria were better than his side in Monday’s final group game.

Konadu led the Black Stars B team to the summit of group A in the WAFU tournament after engineering victories over Mali and Guinea in the first two group games.

However, the Black Stars B team could not complete a clean sweep following a 2-0 reverse in the hands of in the final group game.

Ghana managed to hold the Super Eagles in the first half, but were powerless to stop their opponents from winning after goals from Anthony Okpotu and Peter Moses condemned them to first defeat in the tournament.

Nigeria were clearly the dominant side in the encounter, and Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu admits his side could simply not match the Super Eagles.

Speaking in the aftermath of the game, the former Kotoko coach said: “It wasn’t the best of games for us and I must congratulate Nigeria for their performance, they showed much determination. “They looked hungrier and I think they deserved to victory, we came into the game with a plan, but we were forced to make an early substitution after Isaac Twum got injured.” The Black Stars B team, though, have qualified for the semi-finals of the WAFU tournament, having already secured top spot before facing Nigeria.
