Lewis Hamilton is pleased with his pace at the start of the new Formula One season and is hoping for another successful campaign in 2016.

Hamilton was fastest throughout all three practice sessions and qualifying in the opening Grand Prix in Australia, but was beaten to first place on race day by Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.

The defending world champion is enthused by an element of unpredictability, but is confident he will prove fast enough to challenge for the title once again.

"I'm excited at the thought of more races like Melbourne," said Hamilton.

"There are going to be weekends where we're a few seconds up the road from Ferrari, races where it's wheel to wheel and races where they might be ahead. We really don't know, and that's exciting.

"I have a good feeling about my pace. I was ahead all weekend until the race start last time out, so I'm confident heading to Bahrain.

"It's been entertaining on track for the past two seasons there, so more of the same would be great."
