5 benefits of adding serums to your skincare routine

Serums are water-based treatments which contain a much higher concentration of active ingredients and nutrients such as Vitamin C, E and K. The molecules in serums are smaller than those in a moisturiser, giving them the ability to penetrate through the pores and deep beneath the skin's epidermis absorbing all those good ingredients and nutrients deep within the skins layers, where it is needed most.

This elixir is formulated to target specific skin concerns such as wrinkles, dark spots, acne, pores, fine lines, firming and hyper-pigmentation. While moisturisers are designed to give the epidermis more hydration, they do not contain any of those good nutrients that the skin needs in order to maintain a healthy complexion.

Serums include active ingredients that bring antioxidants to the skin and restore cell growth. They also act as a brightening treatment, anti-ageing prevention and can help with skin complaints such as dry or oily skin. There are no limitations when using a serum, it is suitable for all skin types and is easy to incorporate into your skincare routine.

1. They are very effective

Cleansers and moisturizers usually contain between 5 and 10% active ingredients, whereas serums can contain up to 70%. This means that you’ll actually get results, whether you’re looking to even tone, reduce fine lines, brighten, firm or get rid of dark spots.

2. Zero fillers

Serums are good for people with sensitive skin or breakout-prone skin. They contain active ingredients (peptides, stem cells, vitamins and beneficial minerals) which get past the outer layer of your skin and deliver their greatness deep down, so anything that could get in the way of that mission is left out of the cocktail entirely

3. Fewer breakouts.

Unlike traditional moisturizers (which can leave a pore-blocking layer atop the skin), serums have a watery consistency—and many are, in fact, water-based instead of being oil-based. This means they absorb much faster without any breakout-encouraging residue left behind.

4. A less oily complexion.

Serums keep your skin hydrated without contributing to that greasy feeling that we all hate so much. And because you’re keeping hydrated, your skin won’t go nuts overproducing sebum—thus making you less oily in the long run.

5. You will save money

Serums are quite expensive but if you invest in quality ones, you will save a lot of money. No more wasting money on multiple products that are just ok, or that you think might be working; a great serum is actually going to give you visible results.
