Carl Jenkinson's proposed deadline day switch to Crystal Palace reportedly collapsed due to the wages of Jeffrey Schlupp.

A deal for Jenkinson to move to Selhurst Park permanently looked close to completion when Palace agreed a fee with the Gunners, but Sam Allardyce revealed negotiations with the player's agent were holding up the deal.

"While we appear to have an agreement with Arsenal, that agreement with the player hasn't reached a conclusion, so that's hanging in the balance, as we say," said Allardyce earlier in January.

And according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, Jenkinson was unwilling to make the transfer to the Eagles due to the discrepancy between what was being offered to him and what Schlupp is earning.

Solhekol tweeted: "Jenkinson move from Arsenal to Palace stalled when he was offered £35k a week and discovered Jeffrey Schlupp was on £56k a week."

Jenkinson now looks likely to remain at the Emirates despite his struggles for first-team football.
