Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew could make history by beating Osei Kofi, retired footballer to go top of Ghana’s all-time topscorers chart of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Black Stars have a group D fixture against the Eagles of Mali on Saturday. A win will book them a place in the quarter finals of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), whereas a goal from either Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew will make them surpass Osei Kofi.

The first Black Stars player to score a goal in the Africa Cup of Nations was Wilberforce Kwadwo Mfum in 1963, but Edward Acquah emerged as Ghana’s topscorer in the tournament with four goals.

Osei Kofi equalled Edward Acquah’s four goal tally in 1965 and in 1968 he broke that record in Ethiopia when he scored three goals to beat that record.

Asamoah Gyan equalled Osei Kofi’s feat in 2015 with a goal against Algeria, before Andre Ayew also scored against Uganda in 2017 to match the seven goal record.
