Jermain Defoe's hat trick spoils Andre Ayew's return party

The professionalism of Andre Ayew commands belief from fans whenever the Ghana international promises to work hard. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang beating the Black Stars vice-captain to the 2015 African Player of the Year was not a pleasant experience for Swansea City player Ayew.

The player in the aftermath of the event pledged to continue exciting his fans with hard work. And on his first game since returning from the award ceremony held in Abuja, Nigeria, Andre Ayew gave a glimpse of the delightful player that he is.

Swansea City entertained Sunderland in the English Premier League on Wednesday night at the Liberty Stadium. Ghanaian player Andre Ayew who missed the Welsh club’s shocking exit from the FA Cup was handed a start against the relegation threatened Sunderland.

The former Olympique Marseille player put on a good show but on a more collective team performance, the Wales club were handed a home defeat in the six-goal thriller putting them just a single point ahead of the relegation zone [18th position] occupied by match day opposition Sunderland.

Jermain Defoe opened the scoring for away side Sunderland in the third minute with Gyilfi Sigurdsson leveling 18 minutes later. Ghanaian player Andre Ayew scored to take his Swansea City side into the interval leading by 2-1 after his teammate Kyle Naughton had been sent off.

Patrick van Aanholt put the game at 2-2 four minutes after the first half break with Jermain Defoe adding to his goal to put Sunderland ahead at three goals to two.

England international Jermain Defoe completed a hat trick to put the game beyond Swansea City’s reach with 5 minutes to the end of regular time as visitors Sundnderland won the game by a 4-2 score line.

Andre Ayew was replaced by Jack Cork minutes to the end of the game.
