Medeama SC confirmed their superiority over Accra Hearts of Oak when they managed to beat them by a goal to nil at the Essipong Sports Stadium, Sekondi on Friday to end their First Trust G6 campaign.
Malik Akowuah’s 2 half goal from the spot kick was all that Medeama needed to earn the three points ahead of their final group B game against Aduana Stars on Saturday.
Hearts of Oak finished the game with 10 men due to a 2 booking to Isaac Oduro in the 87.
Medeama outplayed Hearts of Oak in the first 45 minutes and hit the cross bar through Malik Akowuah and the Yellow and Mauves side even failed to score from the yawning net.
The Phobians back from recess doubled their effort and came into the game, but Medeama were slightly on top of the game.
Medeama SC pushed more men upfront and in the course of piling pressure on Hearts of Oak earned a penalty, after Philip Boampong brought down Benjamin Bature in the 18-yard box.
Malik Akowuah nominated himself for the kick and displaced Soulama Abdoulaye in the 74 minute to win the day for the Tarkwa based side.
One incident that created much tension happened in the 2 half, after the centre referee mistakenly sent Philip Boampong off for a 2 yellow card, but he later reversed the decision, after he realised that was Boampong’s first booking.
Hearts of Oak per this result are out of the G6, due to a goalless draw yesterday against Aduana Stars, but Medeama need just a draw against Aduana Stars on Saturday to sail them to the final scheduled for Sunday against the winners of Group A.
