What if Ghana football goes into coma for a year or more?

So as it stands, everybody is divided, including the government, who must now decide to either continue being tough or kowtow to the demands of FIFA.

Ghana football is currently in a state of confusion, following government’s decision to place an injunction on all football related activities and subsequent plans to liquidate the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

A few weeks ago, the stance of government was popular among the majority of citizens.

It was seen as the perfect way to clean the system and to rid it of the rots that were uncovered in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ exposé.

In a documentary that implicated over 77 referees and officials, the country currently stands at a crossroads over what to do next.

Amid a burgeoning legal tussle with some ‘stubborn’ GFA members who are challenging government’s decision to dissolve the Association, there is also the uncompromising warning from FIFA.

Late Monday evening, the nation was sent into a state of pandemonium when a letter from FIFA to the government of Ghana surfaced on various social media platform.

The content of the letter started rather mildly, detailing the previous meetings that the body has had with the liaison team.

However, there was eventually a bombshell; one which could decide the fate of Ghana football in the coming months or years.

"Under these circumstances, the Bureau based on art.16 par. 1 of the Fifa statutes decided on 11 August 2018 that if the petition to start the liquidation process of the GFA is not withdrawn by Monday, 27 August 2018 at 12h00 (CET), the GFA will be suspended with immediate effect,” sections of the statement read.

Some have described FIFA’s letter as a warning, while others say it was a threat.

But whichever way you chose to look at it, it still doesn’t erase the consequences it will hold towards Ghana football.

The message is clear: withdraw the court action to dissolve the GFA or be banned. A ban would bar Ghana from hosting the Africa Women's Championship which is scheduled for November, as well as the affect the Black Stars’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya next month.

But there are still decisions to be made. Until now, government appeared to have had the backing of the majority, but once the probability of a ban popped up, some have started to pull the plugs on their stance.

Yes, people want a revolution to tackle corruption in Ghana football, but are they prepared to see the Black Stars next year’s AFCON as a result of a ban from FIFA?

Also, there is the school of thought that believe Ghana will never have a better opportunity to clean the rot in the game if government does not remain firm.

Let’s just say Ghana football is currently on the sick bed, but what if…..just what if our football goes into a coma for many months or even a year? What will be next?
