The position of Head of Commissions was declared vacant following reshuffling at the EC in April this year.

Mr. Dzakpasu therefore succeeds Christian Owusu-Parry who was recently moved as acting public affairs director of the EC to its administration unit.

A statement signed by Deputy Chair, Corporate Services of the EC, Georgina Opoku Amakwaa said “As Head of Communications, Mr. Dzakpasu will oversee the implementation of the Commission’s overall communications strategy, including strengthening relationships with the media and key stakeholders in the electoral process, public relations, intensified publicity and voter education on electoral processes and issues, deepening internal stakeholder engagement, as well as managing the Commission’s online and social media presence.”

“Under his leadership, the new Communications Department is expected to develop and deploy innovative communication tools, channels, and processes, aimed at making the Commission more responsive to the information needs of the public while serving the people of Ghana better,” he said.

Mr. Dzakpasu, who emerged as the top candidate for the role after a highly competitive and thorough internal recruitment process, will bring substantial field operational experience and sound knowledge of electoral laws and processes to the role, having served the Commission for a total of 20 years, the EC said.

Mr Dzakpasu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

According to the EC, Mr. Dzapkasu will be assisted by Mr. Yussif A. Ayuba, who has also worked with the Commission for a total of seven years in various operational roles.

Mr. Ayuba holds a Master of Arts degree in Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon.
