The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) has chastised the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for failing to communicate to it issues surrounding power supply challenges in the country.

The country is shedding a total of 300 Mega Watts of power owing to the destruction of gas pipelines from Nigeria.

A cross-section of the public is of the opinion that the country has been plunged into an energy crisis again, with the ECG subsequently dismissing those claims.

However, Public Affairs Director of the PURC, Nana Yaa Gyantuah, said even though the ECG argues that the frequent power outages are temporary, the public still needs to be informed officially about the situation.

Some form of communication should be out there,” she told Accra-based Joy FM.

“The timetable is not the only thing that you can do,” Nana Yaa Gyantuah said.

She added that if consumers are given enough information about the situation, they would be able to plan their lives accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Power, John Jinapor has indicated that a load shedding timetable will be released by the end of the week.
