A rubbish collector has been arraigned before an Accra court for allegedly raping a 23-year-old paralysed woman.

The man, Julius Abbey was charged with rape by the court presided over by Judge Isaac Addo.

His plea was not taken and he was remanded in custody, the Daily Graphic reports.

According to the prosecution, Abbey, living at the Achimota market, a suburb of Accra, usually goes to the victim’s house to collect rubbish.

Chief Inspector (C/I) Gregory Yeboah told the court that on Saturday, February 4, 2017, the mother of the victim, went out early in the morning, leaving her son and the victim in the room.

Abbey is said to have entered the house of the victim with the aim of collecting rubbish and sent the little boy in the house on an errand.

The prosecutor said that Abbey subsequently had sexual intercourse with the victim and escaped after the lust.

He added that the victim later informed her mother about the incident and the mother alerted the police.

Abbey was subsequently arrested, after a medical form was given to the mother to take her daughter to the hospital for her to be examined and treated.
