Ashanti Gold will face the test of Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Essipong Sports Stadium, Sekondi on Saturday in the final group ‘A’ game of the competition.
Asante Kotoko are leading the table with 3 points, with Ashgold and Berekum Chelsea on 1 point apiece , after Chelsea drew goalless draw against Ashgold, while the Kotoko managed a 3-1 victory over the Berekum lads.
However, the Porcupine Warriors will enter into this game with a much depleted side, because they have divided their team into two with a core of their team travelling to Libya: Felix Annan, Osei Agyeman, Ahmed Adams, Amos Frimpong, Theophilus Nyame, Jack Owusu, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi, Obed Owusu, Dauda Mohammed, etc, including their head coach David Duncan.
Kotoko have left behind the likes of Oori Antwi, Ernest Sowah, Edwin Frimpong, Evan Quao, Bennett Ofori, Kwadwo Opoku, Kwame Boateng, as they come face to face with a strong Ashgold side that have Rabert Dabuo, Tijani Joshua, Augustine Sefah, Awudu Nafiu, Eric Opoku, Amos Addai, Emmanuel Osei Baffour, Isaac Amoah, Dauda Mohammed, Safiu Mumuni, Emmanuel Osei, etc.
Kotoko need a draw to set a date with the winner of group BÂ in the grand finale, while Ashgold will have to beat Kotoko today to qualify for the final.
The recent meetings between the two sides have gone either ways, Ashgold defeated Kotoko home and away in the off-season GHALCA Top-4 and also beat them in a friendly encounter. However, while Ashgold won their league home game, Kotoko also won at home and again stunned the Miners to win the FA Cup encounter between them.
Ashgold defeated Kotoko to win the Otumfuo Cup, whereas Kotoko also beat the league champion to win the SWAG Cup.
The final group 'B' game will come off between Medeama and Aduana Stars at the same venue at 1:00 pm.
