Zenator’s candidacy has been challenged by the incumbent MP, whom she beat to the party’s ticket for the November 2016 parliamentary poll.

According to Nii Armah Ashietey, Zenator is not a registered voter and thus her election must be declared null and void.

She, however, became a registered voter after she registered with the Electoral Commission in the recent limited voter registration exercise.

The Supreme Court subsequently by a majority decision cleared Dr. Zenator Agyemng-Rawlings to contest the parliamentary election for the Klottey Korle constituency on the ticket of the NDC in the general elections.

The court also directed the High Court to give a ruling in line with the determination by the Supreme Court.

However, Nii Armah on July 19 filed a motion unnoticed to circumvent around the decision by the Supreme Court.

Commenting on the matter on Accra-based TV3, Lawyer for Zanetor, Godwin Tamakoe said “We went to court on the 25 of July, then the High Court judge among other things indicated that ordinarily he as a high court judge cannot go against the ruling of the decision of the Supreme court. Now with that in mind, I had no doubt that this application to discontinue was going to come.”

“Obviously, lawyers for Nii Armah Ashietey wanted to amend and deal with the situation as if it is NDC. Then we pointed to them that the NDC constitution nowhere requires a person to be a registered voter. So with that application hanging, then they brought this application to discontinue,” he said.

Zanetor’s lawyer, however, said the decision by Nii Armah Ashietey to discontinue the case “is a very good and positive development.”

He added that his client, Zanetor is ready to cooperate with anybody in the constituency as they work towards winning the Klottey Korle seat.
