Ghana’s Foreign Ministry subsequently announced that it is facilitating the return of about 168 Ghanaians who have been detained in Libya.

About 127 Ghanaian migrants on Wednesday returned from the North African country with one in a critical condition.

They were brought in by two flights, Air Libya and Afrikia Airways after being rescued from detention centres in Libya following reports of slave trade in the country.

Commenting on the development, Atik Mohammed said he was happy with how the government has handled the situation, especially its role in bringing back home some of the Ghanaian migrants.

“I’m excited that the Foreign Ministry and all the actors in our Foreign policy have been so quick. The President himself has shown that he’s angered by what is going on in Lybia which is a good sign. On the basis of this the Foreign Minister who executes our Foreign Policy has taken immediate actions that has seen our brothers returning back home safely, the response from Ghana has been very swift and impressive,” he told Accra-based Peace FM.
