The Real Madrid start has also donated money to assist emergency services, with Save the Children telling Associated Press it was a “generous donation” which will help to fund food and supplies.

Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a heartfelt message of hope and support to children trapped in the Syrian conflict.

The resources will be used to help children across Syria but notably in Aleppo, which has seen the worst of the fighting between rebels and the Assad government.

Ronaldo sent the children of Syria a special message on his Twitter account.

“Hello, this is for children of Syria, we know that you have been suffering a lot.

“I am a very famous player, but you are the true heroes. Don’t lose your hope, the world is with you.
