The EC had said it cannot delete names of those who registered with NHIS cards based on its own understanding of the ruling.

Former National Youth organizer of the Peoples National Convention, (PNC) Abu Ramadan, has subsequently headed back to the Supreme Court to seek further clarification on the court’s May 5 ruling on the Voter Register.

A former independent presidential candidate has also added his voice to calls for the EC to take all the necessary steps to carry out the Supreme Court order which called for a credible voters register.

A letter to the EC dated June 14, 2016 and signed by his lawyer, Mr Peter Kweku Nti, said “We believe the EC, with the right tools and determination, can achieve compliance with the judgement of the Supreme Court dated May 5, 2016.

“We hope to receive a feedback within seven days of the date of this letter the EC’s intention and willingness to carry out its mandate or risk being dragged to the same Supreme Court to be specifically called upon to carry out its mandate,’’ the letter stated.

The letter to the EC also asked it to amend the provisions of CI 91, which deals with exhibition of the electoral register, “so as to be able to delete technically and legally in order to implement the order of the Supreme Court to create a reasonably credible biometric voters register.”
