Nora Hauptle complained about inadequate preparation for her team before she officially left her role as head coach of Ghana’s senior women’s national team.
Hauptle was appointed as Black Queens head coach in 2023 and transformed the team within a short period.
Her time in charge of the Black Queens was marked by an improved team spirit and overall performance on the pitch. She managed to qualify Ghana for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco later this year.
Unfortunately, she will not be the one to lead the Black Queens to battle in July 2025 after exiting as the team’s head coach. Days before that, she shared a chart on LinkedIn that shows Ghana as the team with the least number of games played in 2024 as compared to other competitors.
This came after reports that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) were unable to raise the $40,000 needed for the Black Queens planned international friendly matches against Senegal and Tunisia in November 2024.
This, plus other similar factors, many believe was the chief reason behind her decision to leave her role as Black Queens head coach and sign a three-year contract with Zambia’s Copper Queens.
However, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has revealed that the Association was unable to reach an agreement with the Swiss manager as they simply couldn’t meet her demands.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Asante Twum said they tried their very best to maintain Hauptle, but they fell short of her salary demands, hence, her decision to leave.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) met Nora Hauptle to discuss a possible extension of her contract and with the offer we presented to her, she was demanding a 100 percent increment but we offered her 50 percent since it was the FA who has been paying her since her appointment.
We tried our best to extend her contract but she was unwilling to accept what we presented. And being a professional coach, she had the right to walk away since her contract had ended.
The Black Queens have been paired with Tanzania, Mali, and the reigning champions South Africa in Group C for the 2025 WAFCON scheduled for July 5 to July 26.
