Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon played down concerns over the fitness of David Warner after the opener's injury scare.

Warner appeared to hurt his hand during fielding practice in Adelaide on Tuesday, sparking fears he may have re-injured his thumb.

But Lyon said he had no doubt Warner would be fit to face New Zealand in the third Test starting Friday.

"He's fine. What's wrong with him?" Lyon told a news conference on Wednesday.

"That's just Davey being Davey. There's nothing to worry about.

"He smashed me around in the nets for 40 minutes so he's fine."

Lyon is welcoming the first ever day-night Test, with Australia leading the three-match series 1-0.

The 28-year-old also has happy memories of the Adelaide Oval, where he was once the groundsman.

Lyon took 12 wickets in a Test against India in December last year at the venue, leading Australia to victory.

"It was probably my best performance for Australia and it's something that I look back a lot on and take a lot out of it so hopefully I get a crack," he said.

"I'm a big fan of bowling with the pink ball seen they [batsmen] can't see the seam so it's going to be interesting times for the spinners."
