Andrea Iannone will not race at the Aragon Grand Prix this weekend as he continues to recover from the back injury suffered at Misano.

The Ducati rider fractured three vertebrae in his upper back following a crash in first practice in San Marino two weeks ago, and subsequently missed the race.

Iannone was determined to race in Alcaniz and was cleared by MotoGP doctors on Thursday.

He finished sixth in the first free practice session on Friday, but later announced he would take no further part in the weekend.

Ducati replacement rider Michele Pirro will take his place throughout the weekend, in what will be his ninth appearance of the season.

Pirro's best result of the campaign came last time out in Misano when he finished seventh in Iannone's place, while he has also ridden for the Ducati-powered Octo Pramac and Avintia teams.
