Brazilian gymnast Diego Hypolito said his silver medal in the men's floor final at Rio 2016 felt like a gold, after his previous heartbreak at Olympic Games.
Veteran Hypolito and compatriot Arthur Mariano delighted a partisan crowd in Rio's Olympic Arena by finishing second and third behind Great Britain's Max Whitlock in the first individual apparatus final of the artistic gymnastics programme.
The two home favourites showed plenty of emotion as their places on the podium were confirmed and there were further roars of joy from spectators when the medal ceremony took place.
Reflecting on his previous Olympic failures on the floor, Hypolito said: "With all the training and preparation [I've done], for me, this is a gold.

"I have competed in three Olympic Games. In the first Olympic Games [Beijing 2008] I qualified in first place for the final. Then in the final, I fell.
"Four years later I went to London and I fell on the first day, I didn't make the final.
"Today was a very important day for me. Winning a medal today was the most important thing in my life."
Mariano was similarly elated and added: "My dream was to compete in the Olympic Games, but then when I was part of the Olympic Games, my dream became to get a medal. It's very gratifying when you believe in your dream."
