When wearing dress trousers or casual trousers, apart from jeans, the colour of your socks should be dictated by the colour of your pants and not by the shade of your shoes.

Too many men spoil perfectly reasonable outfits by wearing the wrong kind of socks. While there arent a whole load of sock rules to follow, there are actually a few that are key to making sure you’re able to pull off your otherwise carefully put together ensembles.

Below are six sock rules, men should follow:
- It’s important to ensure that irrespective of the chosen colour or type of socks, they shouldn’t be torn, stained and should match. It’s not cool to wear one sock of a certain colour or print and the other being different. It’s not stylish at all.
- Â To avoid any confusion you could either match the colour of your socks with the trousers or the tie.Â
- If you are suited up in basic black or in any dark colour, for a dash of colour, go ahead with a contrasting light shade of socks.Â
- It’s the safest option to go for neutral colours when you have an occasion or an event that requires a more formal or somber tone. You could stick to the classic all black look or wear argyle printed, knee length socks. For business and professional outings, it would be preferable for you to go with understated prints.Â
- For a casual evening, you could mix prints and colours as per your style. Just ensure that you are not wearing socks with open sandals.
-  If you have sported a formal jacket with a pair of jeans and a casual t-shirt, you could simply pull on a pair of dark coloured socks to maintain that balance with the denim and the shoes. However, don’t match your socks with the colour of your shoes.
