Anne Hathaway Is Giving Up Alcohol Because She's Sick Of Being Hungover In Front Of Her Son

Anyone who's stumbled into work with a massive hangover knows that surviving the day with a pounding headache is rough. But it's even harder when you've got another full-time job: parenting. And while kids probably can't tell that mommy had a bit too much wine last night, hangovers don't help you bring your parenting A-game.

Thats why Anne Hathaway says shes giving up drinking. "I quit drinking back in October," she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show . "Im going to stop drinking while my son is in my house just because I dont totally love the way I do it, and hes getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the mornings."

The 36-year-old actress then told the story of how she dropped her 3-year-old off at school when she was super hungover-and, well, it sucked. "I wasnt driving, but I was hungover-and that was enough for me," she said. "I didnt love that one."

Anne also confided that she once drank too much with Matthew McConaughey while shooting Serenity on the island of Mauritius. "We drank the night away, and then I had to go to a meeting with Steven Knight, our director, the next day, and I was just kinda stumbling in with one eye open and I was trying to convince him about certain things about my character," she said. "And at the end of it I said, 'Listen, I have a confession. I was hungover the entire time.' And he just goes, 'Oh, really? I couldnt tell.'"

The Ocean's Eight star is one of several celebs cutting out alcohol. Earlier this month, Chrissy Teigen tweeted that she didnt drink on a flight home from vacation, and it rocked. "You get home feeling like a normal, healthy being. Its very weird. I like it," she wrote.

Of course, giving up alcohol doesnt just help you avoid a hangover-it also has some serious health perks , like better quality sleep and more energy. It can even help you lose weight and have clearer skin.

Sure, giving up alcohol isnt for everyone. But if you just can't deal with struggling through another pretend tea party with pounding head, it might be worth a shot.
