The awards were to thank them for their services to the nation.

Dr Bawumia, on behalf of the nation, expressed gratitude to them for their "dedication and support in promoting our foreign policy objectives for decades. We are truly proud of you."
Some of the awardees served Ghana as ambassadors, ministers and deputy ministers of state, secretary to cabinet and chief directors, among others.
