The Mamprugu overlord Naa Bohigu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga has welcomed plans by the government to divide the Northern Region.

Speaking at a gathering during a visit to his place by the vice president, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, he also urged the government to make Nalerigu the capital of the yet to be created region.

He also appealed to the government to repair the Nalerigu township roads which he observed are in  terrible shape.

The Mamprugu overlord also urged the government to upgrade the Nalerigu Nurses and Midwives College so as to create space to admit more students.

In addition, he also urged the vice president to build a modern health facility in Nalerigu.

The vice president was accompanied to the palace by the Northern Regional Minister, the Local Government Minister and the New Patriotic Party officials in the Northern Region.

In his address, the thanked them for backing the NPP in the 2016 election.

He also promised that the government will establish a cement factory in the area as part of the government's one-district,one-factory policy.
