Carl Frampton is set to face off against Leo Santa Cruz for the Mexican's WBA featherweight championship later this year.

Northern Irishman Frampton defeated long-time rival Scott Quigg on points to add the WBA super-bantamweight title to his IBF belt in February.

Frampton, who was subsequently stripped of the WBA belt for failing to fight mandatory challenger Guillermo Rigondeaux, soon set his sights on a bout with three-weight world champion Santa Cruz, who is unbeaten in 33 professional fights.

And 29-year-old Frampton took to Twitter on Friday to announce a mouth-watering bout in New York.

Frampton's manager Barry McGuigan added that further details about the fight will be revealed next week.

"We have reached an agreement for @RealCFrampton to face @leosantacruz2 in late summer in NYC. Details to follow next week #monsterfight," McGuigan wrote.

It remains to be seen if Frampton's decision to fight Santa Cruz will mean he also has to forfeit his IBF super-bantamweight title.
