If you're the president of Ghana, you can afford to make jokes at the opposition party.

And that is the high road that Ghana's president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo took while speaking at an event over the weekend.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Nana Addo is seen speaking at an event as an umbrella slipped to brush against his face.

But it is not the speech that has gotten Ghanaians hooked.

After a momentary pause following the umbrella incident, Nana Addo made a joke, which most people have deemed a jab at the largest opposition party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

"This is what happens when you have the umbrella", Nana Addo jokingly remarked after the incident. "It is never steady", he added with a smile on his face.

So why does Ghanaian social media call it a jab at the opposition party?

The symbol of the NDC is an umbrella with the head of a dove at the tip.

And is was this party led by the former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, that Nana Addo and the incumbent New Patriotic Party ousted from government.

The NPP leader polled 5,716,026 to beat incumbent President John Mahama who had 4,713, 277 as according to official results announced by Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Charlotte Osei.

According to the EC statistics, Nana Akufo-Addo recorded 53.85% of the total votes cast as against 44.40 by President Mahama.

Yup, Ghana's president is currently the one with all the jokes!
