Meet the Ghanaian players nominated for the African Player of the Year award

A Ghanaian player, Thomas Partey has been nominated as a contender for the 2018 African Player of the Year Award.

Ghana Black Stars midfielder, Thomas Partey has been nominated as a contender for the 2018 African Player of the Year Award.

Partey, 25, is part of the 34 African players who have been selected by the Confederation of African Football to contest for the coveted award.

The Atletico Madrid star is the only Ghanaian player to be nominated for the prestigious award as CAF released the list on Friday morning.

Partey will have to shrug off competition from the likes of current holder and Liverpool hitman Mohamed Salah, as well as Sadio Mane of Senegal and Liverpool, Algeria and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez and many more.

The Black Maiden’s captain Abdulai Mukarama, Elizabeth Addo and Portia Boakye have also been nominated to contest for the Women’s African Player of the year award.

Morocco has the highest number of players on the list with 5 nominations.

The list will be cut-down before the awards ceremony on Tuesday, 8 January 2019 in Dakar, Senegal.
