The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has launched an “Operation don’t cross the red line” as part of measures to control traffic situation in the central business district of Accra during the yuletide season.
“Operation don’t cross the red line” launched to ease X’mas traffic
Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije announced this during the tour of the central business district.
Streets of the Central Business District of Accra are usually choked with vehicular and human traffic on during Christmas as people engage in lots of shopping activities.
Pedestrians have said the heavy traffic situation was as a result of traders and hawkers taking over pavements and even part of the roads.
Meanwhile, Mr Vanderpuije has told Graphic.com.gh that he is hopeful that traders will abide by the rules to ensure that the new measures introduced become successful.
He added that police and AMA taskforce personnel have been deployed at vantage points to ensure the free flow of traffic.
