This was to be a measure to gain revenue in order maintain the facility. However, in a statement signed by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mr Pius Hadzide it was stated that Mr Joshua Mensah will have to explain why he made a public declaration of that nature without authorization.
This was on the back of the National Sports Authority Director Robert Sarfo Mensah confirming that no such had been approved by his outfit.
The statement signed by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports read:
“It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, certain comments and suggestions made by the Regional Director of the NationalSports Authority, Ashanti Region to the effect that the Baba Yara Stadium may soon be closed to sporting activities on Saturdays in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi
"This has generated disquiet and apprehension
Whiles I commend the Director General of the NSA for swift reaction in indicating that no such decision made and approved, I have directed that the Regional Director be invented immediately to Accra to explain why he should not be sanctioned for making public comments of such serious nature without authorization.”
