The Council of the University said it has become necessary for the broadcaster to go into the University's Hall of Fame having considered his "strong advocacy role in support of infant health delivery services and your outstanding career in journalism, among several other roles being played to promote good governance in the country.”
In a statement, KNUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Kwesi Obiri Danso lauded Mr. Sefa Kayi for being a role model to several Ghanaians and serving as a check on successive governments towards economic progress.
Speaking at the 51st Congregation and 2017 Founders Day Special Congregation Ceremony and graduation of the university, he noted that the University, over the years, has keenly noted his good works in diverse ways, hence the need for him to be acknowledged and recognized in the historical books of the school.
A citation in his honour, read as follows:"Multiple award-winning broadcast journalist, KNUST salutes you. An astute and experienced broadcast journalist, your style of presentation has endeared many to the famous Kokrokoo morning show. Every day of the working week, you capture the sense and sensibilities of your patrons, facilitating their opinion and decision making in the process. You make optimal use of the medium at your disposal to influence change at various levels.
"Your ability to keep government and its machinery alive to their responsibilities is commendable. And your desire to enhance the lives of many and thus contribute to the development of your nation is unquestionable. As a public spirited individual, you're also deeply involved in community initiatives that have had great impact on society. You are the founder and Chairman of Kokrokoo Charities Foundation, non-governmental organization that is currently engaged in soliciting funding for the procurement of a 100 incubators for distribution to health facilities in the country."Your passion for child health is evident from your statement that infant mortality must not be news to report on. For the immense role in keeping governments and opinion leaders of this country on their toes, for the influence you have so effectively wielded to positively impact on the lives of many and for all the efforts you make towards the transformation of the Ghanaian society; the Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology takes pleasure in awarding you the honour 'Distinguished Service.”
