Rawlings said Nana Addo inherited "corruption as his worst" achievement from the NDC.
He made this known when a delegation of political leaders from Sierra Leone led by former Vice-President Chief Sam-Sumana called on him.
He said the corruption crisis he faced when he first came to power in 1979 was not as bad as it is in other governments.
Rawlings said "By the time this administration came into office, the country was literally drowning in the practice of corruption with impunity. This administration has, therefore, inherited national corruption at its worst."
He explained that some administrations who found the integrity level of the AFRC/PNDC too high and intimidating made it a point to corrupt some of the country’s national institutions.
He added that "The current government owes its own survival to the anti-corruption crusade."
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given the security agencies a directive to investigate any official within his administration who will be accused of corruption.
The directive is part of Nana Addo’s promise to run an incorruptible government.
President Akufo-Addo also stated that persons who make allegations of corruption against his officials should also be prepared to give evidence when called upon.
