A female 200 level student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has died in a road crash involving a motorcycle and a school bus.
Mary Ibitolu, a law student, was knocked off a moving motorcycle and crushed to death in Oshogbo, the Osun state capital in Nigeria.
gathered that the student was riding on the commercial motorcycle when the bus, allegedly owned by a private school based in the town, failed break and struck them.
Ibitolu fell off the motorcycle and was crushed by the same bus.
Passers-by rushed her to the hospital but she died from her injuries.
The cyclist and a commuter who was knocked down while waiting at the bus stop survived with injuries.
A street hawker who spoke to Punch said the driver was trying to push-start the vehicle minutes before the accident.
"He tried to stop the bus from hitting the okada but he failed,"
"She fell off the motorcycle and was rushed to a hospital at Okefia, but she died there."
A member of the Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students at the OAU, Mr. Timothy Agbor, told Punch that the deceased was a member of the fellowship and a "God-fearing lady."
Policemen have taken the bus and the motorcycle to the Dada Estate Police Station but declined comments over the matter.
