Let Ebony rest in peace, instead of pieces

Late Ebony Reigns is resting in pieces instead of peace, barely six months after her death. Her manager Bullet and father Nana Opoku Kwarteng are responsible!

Ebony Reigns

A few days after the “Maame Hw3” hitmaker had that gruesome road accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi road, her father Mr Nana Opoku Kwarteng popped up in the media, throwing jabs and pointing accusing fingers at Rufftown Records/MidasTouch Inc. – the label in charge of her daughter.

He had back and forth with the label using the media power and made several damaging allegations about how his daughter was treated by her record label.

Prior to her final funeral and burial rites, Nana Opoku had granted several interviews to the media, letting out some sensitive issues he could have hidden from the public.

Ricky Osei Agyeman ‘Bullet’, who oversees the record label and Ebony Reigns, also did several rebuttals through the media to calm things down but to no avail. Any rebuttal triggers Nana Opoku and even gives more uglifying responses.

The main issue regarding the back and forth is about MONEY. From funeral donations to royalties to benefits, Nana Opoku mangled the record label and its management team.

The dust settled after Ebony’s burial.

But, Nana Poku is back again on his usual media tour and now, it’s even unsightly horrifying.

In his first interview granted last week, he claimed he was paid GHC 2,000 out of GHC 39,999 made from ticket sales from Ebony’s tribute concert held on March 23.

And when Bullet listed all the monies paid to him including GHC 45,291 from royalties in a Facebook rebuttal, he [Nana Opoku] got triggered. Nana Opoku went on air again and this time, he showed off a sheet of paper he claimed has the tribute concert expenses.

He mentioned 9 artistes who allegedly received performance fees from Bullet for the tribute concert. The paper also contains names of Mcs and DJs and their performance fees.

Opoku Kwarteng again went on another TV station to question why Bullet called Ebony’s mother on the night of her death to take him [Bullet] to the morgue to see her corpse. His demeanour suggested Bullet had wanted to do something negative to do with Ebony's corpse.

At this point, it’s clear that there are so many things wrong with Ebony’s father and Rufftown Records.

When rapper 2Pac died, there was no fight between his family and Death Row Records. When The Notorious B.I.G. died, there was no fight between his family and Bad Boy Records. When Michael Jackson died, we didn’t hear about any fights. Even more recently, when XXXTentacion died, his label and mother took over his social media accounts and royalties.

If Ebony’s father feels cheated he should go to court and solve the issue amicably instead of going on footling media tours. The media cannot cough out the money he’s looking for – only the court has the mandate.

Why let Ebony Reigns, who worked tirelessly and left a great legacy behind, rest in pieces instead of peace!
