FDA cautions Senior High schools against consumption of palm oil

This was after the FDA collected samples of the product from schools and traders in the Upper West Region to be sent for testing in Accra.

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has asked all Senior High Schools to suspend the consumption of Palm oil until the Authority comes out with its findings.This was after the FDA collected samples of the product from schools and traders in the Upper West Region to be sent for testing in Accra.

RELATED: Palm oil dealers submit their products for testingSpeaking in an interview with Radio Ghana in Wa, the Regional Officer of the Authority, Gorden Akurugu said "we have realised that the second cycle institutions in the region consume large volume of palm oil. So for as to ascertain the quality of palm oil being used in our various Senior High schools, we have sampled from all the schools, and all the palm oil that is with them in stock have been detained for quick analysis to be conducted at the head office."

Mr Akurugu added the Authority will give approval for consumption if the oil is found to be wholesome.Mr Akurugu said the Authority is also educating consumers on the need to avoid adulterated food items.
