Migrant says he was sold into slavery by fellow Ghanaian

He was part of the 127 Ghanaian migrants who returned from Libya on Wednesday.

About 127 Ghanaian migrants returned from Libya with one in a critical condition.

They were brought in by two flights, Air Libya and Afrikia Airways after being rescued from detention centres in Libya following reports of slave trade in the country.

In an interview with Accra-based Starr FM, the returnee who was said to be distressed said: “What I found myself in Libya, I wouldn’t wish for even my worst enemy, we were sold like bread by our own fellow Ghanaians. And it was a very disheartening experience. We went through the desert and some of us disappeared without a trace and others were shot and killed, luckily for some of us, we were able to escape and were arrested and brought to the deportation centre”.

Scores of African migrants are being sold in open slave markets in Libya.

In a footage released by CNN from Libya, young men from sub-Saharan Africa are seen being auctioned as farm workers.

Many are concerned that some Ghanaians may have been caught up in the matter.

Ghana’s Foreign Ministry subsequently announced that it is facilitating the return of about 168 Ghanaians who have been detained in Libya.
