Mahama forwards petition to Council of State

The Chief of Staff Julius Debrah did the presentation on behalf of the President. He said President Mahama was hoping the Council of will look at the petition and advise him accordingly.

The Supreme Court handed the Montie trio a four-month jail term after they were found guilty of contempt. They were also to pay a fine of GHc 10,000 each.

The first petition was from the three culprits; the host of Pampaso on Montie FM, Salifu Maase aka Mugabe, and two panellists on his program. Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson. The second petition was from a Civil Society Group, Research and Advocacy Platform.

The Chief of Staff Julius Debrah did the presentation on behalf of the President. Debrah told the Chairperson of the Council, Madam Cecilia Johnson, that President Mahama is hopeful the Council will advise him on what step to take.

Cecilia Johnson on her part said that the petition will be submitted to the Legal Committee of the Council for initial review before the Council as whole meets to consider the issues.

Meanwhile, government officials have been visiting the Montie trio in the Nsawam prisons since they were sent to the prison to serve their sentence.
