Mikel Merino beat off competition from Christian Atsu and Ciaran Clark to the Newcastle United Player for the month of August.
The award, voted for by Newcastle fans, was won by Mikel Merino who polled 45% of the votes.
Christian Atsu featured in all the three games Newcastle played in the month of August and despite his side losing to Tottenham on the opening day of the league, he was the biggest threat to the Spurs. He was also superb in Newcastle's first league victory of the season against West Ham United and even provided an assist.

However, Merino, who made a cameo off the bench against Spurs, was then followed with a very good game against Huddersfield – though he was at fault for the goal, with then a dominant midfield display in the 3-0 win over West Ham to merit the votes of the fans as the finest player for the month of August.
